IBM Partners with BharatGen to Expand AI in India
IBM has joined forces with BharatGen, an initiative backed by India's Department of Science and Technology, to accelerate AI adoption across the country. The collaboration focuses on developing multimodal and large language models tailored for Indic languages, addressing a critical gap in global AI accessibility.
The partnership builds on prior connections formed at an AI Alliance event, where IBM demonstrated its InstructLab tool for fine-tuning smaller models in regional languages. BharatGen's existing models cover 14 major Indian languages, with plans for further expansion.
Joint applications will target key sectors including education, agriculture, banking, healthcare, and citizen services. The initiative combines BharatGen's sovereign models with IBM's Granite technology platform, promising to deliver localized AI solutions at scale.
